Next stop Rome

I’m doing my last night shift now. After that ends we will drive down to Helsinki and catch a plane to Munich. There we will catch another plane to Rome. We will return to Finland the day before New Years Eve again via Munich. What will you do between Christmas and New year?

Merry Christmas

This is my official a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year greeting to all you readers of my blog =).

All ready now

All is ready for Christmas now; I have bought my Christmas gifts. Christmas is planned; four nightshifts(at my first right now), two Christmas dinners, three trips to Pörtom(where my mom lives), coffee, going to the grave yards with candles, going to an elderly home, packing for our trip to Rome and driving to the airport 400 kilometres away directly after my last night shift.

Exactly as Christmas should be =).

32

Well, I'm a year older now, like 32. Happy Birthday to me =).

Tuesday, December 19, 2006

Today is a new day

-there is a thick ice sheet on the car windows in the morning

-it’s cold outside

-it’s snow outside

-yet we are getting a green Christmas

-I got morning shift three out of four

-I’ve had too much coffee today

-it’s not our dogs that bark all the time but I would like who’s dog do that

Minus Degrees

Well the snow that fell yesterday are all gone and -1 C isn’t exactly cold weather but it could mean a white Christmas...

Friday, December 15, 2006

Friday Night

Well I'm a bit tired but the coffee should start working soon… or not at all…

Wednesday, December 13, 2006

I'm full

I took some leftovers to work. A bit of barbequed chicken, potato… (potatislåda in Swedish) and a Greek salad. I’m full =).

Finally

Finally I have found a decent blog search. That is google blog search. It’s basically the same blog search as Blogger but somehow Google’s work much better. One reason is that you can put 100 search results (blogs) per page on Google. Blogger’s search gives you 10 search results per page, on search page 2 you get 5 results from page 1 and on search page 3 you get 4 results from page 1 and 2 results from page 2. A few search pages down the road and you get nothing new…

The last evening shift

Well, I’m at my last evening shift. Tomorrow is my day of, which I will spend with my girlfriend painting her apartment. The guy who is going to do her floor will do it on Saturday so it’s better to paint before the floor is laid. If you have to worry about “don’t spill paint on the new floor” the painting will take much longer and you might get paint stains on the floor.

And at Wednesday my evening shifts starts again, three of them

If you see Finnish YLE2 a mini series named “Isabella” starts tonight. I’m in that series as an extra. Well I won’t bee seen before episode three which is the last episode two weeks from now.

Sunday, December 10, 2006

Good Morning

It’s almost 16:00 but it still feels like morning. Well evening shifts have a way of turning the clock around. You usually go to work in the morning but it’s Sunday and I started working 15:00 (AM/PM have never been, are not being, will never be used in this part of the world). It’s ok to sleep away most of the day and it’s morning feeling when you go to work whatever time of the day it is.

A grey reality

Well it’s sort of nice with a snow free winter. I mean it’s warm (cold if compared to summer temperatures), some of the grass is green, you don’t have to wear a ton of clothes to go outside.

On the downside is that this far north we get 5 hours of sunlight per day this time of year. Combine that with a never ending rain and you live in a very grey reality, that is when it’s not night, then it is truly dark.

Well tomorrow the sun will be shining from clear sky, at least according to the weather report.

And Ann, if you are reading this your Swedish is still pretty good. =)

Spring is in the air

The last few weeks have been so warm that nature is reacting as it was spring. Well at least December should be warm according to the meteorologists. I’m sort of used to snow but maybe a winter without snow wouldn’t be that bad. Well if it doesn’t get cold in January this winter could be a bit different…

Orkut

I finally got myself an Orkut account last night; you know Google’s social networking community. Up until now it has been an invitation only community but now it’s open for all Google account holders.

I guess with an invitation only membership it’s been a sort of mystified secret club, a secret society. Sounds exiting don’t it? The only problem is that Orkut isn’t. It’s a standard web community like MySpace with lots of Brazilians and Indians, no blogging and ¼ of the numbers of users on MySpace.

But wait, Google owns Blogger. It seems like Google have spent the last years buying up interesting web companies but has not linked them together. I’m not asking for an integrated Blogger/Orkut but it would be nice to be able to place a site feed from Blogger on your Orkut page…

3 out of 4

I spent the day mostly sleeping. I slept in bed until noon and from 16 to 19 in the sofa…

Sunday, December 03, 2006

2/4

What I got here is night shift 2 out of 4…

A green Christmas

What about a green Christmas? I never had one before...

A New Watch

I got myself a new watch yesterday. The battery ran out a few days in my old watch. So why didn’t I just change the battery. Well the old clock was 15 €, a battery change costs 8-10 € and my new watch was 5, 90 €. You do the math.

Well I could buy a more expensive watch, something in the range of 50-100 €. There is one problem with those, they corrode away in about 5 years, well not entirely but they become useless when the corrosion reach the buttons. Or buy an even more expensive watch made of Titan. Maybe not, I need my watch to show me what time it is, nothing more.

Hello

After 10 days of vacation, 4 evening shifts and one day off it’s somewhat difficult to get up around 6 every morning (actually morning 3 out of 4)…

Monday, November 27, 2006

The return of the Fall

Well let’s put it like this, there are no snow, it’s been warm for 2 weeks. The 10 day weather forecast promises no minus degrees and the grass is green again…

Saturday, November 25, 2006

The last evening shift

I’m having my last evening shift before my day off tomorrow. My next four morning shifts starts Monday morning…

Friday, November 24, 2006

A healthier day

Today is a healthier day, only a strawberry pie was left behind and we brought healthy food with us...

Thursday, November 23, 2006

Eaten

Well we have eaten it all now, except one of the wiener breads left behind…

A lot

I brought coffee bread, the other guy that works here brought coffee bread and the guys that have been working on our computer system here today brought coffee bread. Then I made a Greek salad and took some lasagne with me for “dinner” (well the food you eat in the evening is called dinner) at work. Something tells me I will be rolling home…

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

Back at work

Well I’m back at work after my ten days off. The first few days I had some problems with doing nothing. But last week I’ve been getting up around noon. Then getting a shower, going out walking the dog, getting something to eat, playing some WoW…

I got an easy start at work though, four evening shifts…

Monday, November 20, 2006

I thought I would be nice to my dog

I thought I would be nice to my dog and buy her a chewing bone, you know those that are made of animal skin. Usually it takes her a couple of days up to two weeks to eat one of those.

Well it lasted two hours. And a dog eating that much animal skin that fast can only mean on thing, diarrhea. I hope my neighbors forgive me but it’s not possible to get to the woods a couple of hundred meters away in time but it will rain tomorrow and it will all wash away from the pavement.

Discovery is back

I admit it; I can’t live without Mythbusters or American Chopper on my TV. On Finnish TV you can watch them once a week but on Discovery you can watch them daily. So I cancelled the two Swedish channels ZTV and TV3 that was 4.40 € per month and Instead I got the Discovery channel package which contains 4 Discovery channels and Animal planet for 9.90 €. There is however one problem, I might start watching to much TV ;-).

Beware, the common people are blogging!!!

I’m constantly exploring the blogosphere. And one the things I’ve come across are the way some elitist bloggers and journalists look down on normal people’s blogs. For example one guy wrote that he couldn’t belive that Technorati had started listing MySpace Blogs and how could anybody take anything serious that had been written on MySpace and he wouldn’t want to be on the same list as MySpace bloggers.

There are also complains about web-based blogs. The “real” bloggers use software blogs.

I’ve also read articles by journalists that explain how meaningless blogs are and that they give the illusion to common people that they can write and that blogs can’t be compared to real journalists’ work.

One of my former readers also stated that she no longer reads my blog because she can’t stand reading another line about what I had for breakfast or what shift I work. Well good for you.

Blogs are a true revolution. Rich people, poor people, smart people, dumb people… They are all writing blogs. As always when it comes to the internet, geeks in their thirties and forties have led the way. And as always once there is a way people will come. Blogs are no longer written only by the 37 year old geek writing a review about the latest Graphics card from Nvidia and read by other geeks.

People are writing about their daily lives, sometimes about their innermost feelings and sometimes about truly mundane things, like what they had for breakfast. Sometimes they write anonymous blogs and sometimes they write down their name and put up a picture. It’s their choice how they do it and if someone wants to read my blog I welcome Thee, if you don’t well it’s you loss.

And journalists, well there are people that are writing better than you and get out news stories faster than you and they do it for free, and for their own interest. Yes if I was a journalist I would be worried.

As for choice of blog platform, it all depends on kind of readers you want, the elitist snobs on Typepad that want you to feel honoured to be in their presence or the common people over at Blogger or MySpace. I prefer the last two, what about you?

Beware, the common people are blogging!!!

A man in the kitchen

I promised yesterday I would make dinner and well I'm sort of lost in the kitchen =)

The Big Question

The big question is what is better, Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 2?

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

A new blog even today

Well I spent the day with a visit to my mom, having some trouble wit my computer, which will continue tomorrow, shopping groceries and doing some laundry. This is day 2 out of my ten day vacation…

Saturday, November 11, 2006

The last nightshift

8 hours left to 10 days off =)

The White House

You know the television series”The White House”. It’s American, it’s political and I like it. What’s wrong with me?

Friday, November 10, 2006

1 down 3 to go

Last night’s nightshift went well. I’m doing my second now.

What’s new? Well I actually cleaned and did my laundry today, well all the bed clothes. The good thing about winter is that you don’t drag in all of these leafs and seeds that fall off the trees in the fall. Those I got vacuumed up today =).

Wednesday, November 08, 2006

Four nightshifts

I got the last four nightshifts before my ten day vacation =)

I can’t make up my mind

The Swedish and the Finnish blogs are back. I like my Swedish blog at Aftonbladet, I get a few of comments and it gets noticed. On the downside is that it costs, well 2 € a month isn’t that much but you get this one for free and it’s better. And I don’t have to switch websites every time I write a blog if I write all of them here.

Well, I probably will not write a post in Finnish today, or tomorrow, but when I do it’s nice to have a ready blog to write it in.

I also made the links on the “new” blogs more reader targeted, you know, Swedish links for Swedes, Finnish links for Finns. I also made the links on this blog more targeted for my audience.

I know I can’t make up my mind, according to someone who saw me together with most of my relatives for the first time, it’s an Eriksson trait. Well at least on this side of the Atlantic ;-).

Sunday, November 05, 2006

Well, I know my blog isn’t always exiting or produce high level writing. But it’s my blog and wishing everyone a good morning is a way of telling everyone that I’m alive and doing well. It’s also a way of being nice, and that is usually a good thing ;-).

I’m doing my second morning shift and I’m not tired at all this morning. Falling asleep on the sofa watching TV early last evening was probably not that bad =).

Saturday, November 04, 2006

Good Morning

It’s an early Saturday morning because I got 3 morning shifts ahead…

Thursday, November 02, 2006

Tired

It's been a long day. I passed the test we had at the course with flying colors =). Other that, well good night...

Wednesday, November 01, 2006

Too Many blogs.

Up until a few minutes ago I had three blogs on blogger. Now I have only one. I had one in Swedish, one in Finnish and this one in English. I already write a blog in Swedish at http://blogg.aftonbladet.se/5352 and another one at a member’s only website. Well actually I write only one blog in Swedish and copy, paste to the other two sites, kind of unnecessary.

Since I write a blog here already in English and most Swedish speaking people know at least some English the Swedish blog here was deleted.

Well the Finnish blog isn’t happening. I simply lack the interest to update it regularly and English is a commonly known language among Finnish speaking people.

With less blogs I can focus on the ones I have.

Preparations for the Winter

Well since it’s -5 C outside, the ground is white and powder snow is blowing around it was time to change to my winter jacket. A few days earlier I turned on all the radiators in my apartment to full. It’s winter…

Monday, October 30, 2006

Course

I have a course tomorrow; maybe I should go to bed?

Friday, October 27, 2006

New pictures

I finally have found a better place to display my pictures. I have removed most of my stuff from Spaces. Well my new picture page is http://dojle74.pixbox.se/ . It’s in Swedish but you can add 100 MB worth of pictures each month and that is just the free version…

Thursday, October 26, 2006

The calm before the storm

It has been an exceptionally beautiful day, well at least before I got to work. The sun was shining and it was around +7 C and no wind. Well now it’s cloudy, +4 C and no wind. It’s still good weather for this time of year. Well that’s just the calm before the storm.

The storm that is expected to hit some time tomorrow are the kind of storm that brings 1-2 feet of snow and loss of electrical power in large areas, nice…

Wednesday, October 25, 2006

At work again

Well here I am again with 4 evening shifts ahead of me. Today’s usual X3M-lunch took place at a restaurant named Fransmanni (translated: Frenchman). It may be a bit expensive but the food and the service all makes up for the price =).

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

Laundry day

Oh what fun it is laundry day. Well since I have the day off it seems like a good day to wash, bedclothes mainly so it doesn’t go in the washing machine with one wash. I washed the covering with the first wash and now the other bedclothes are in the washing machine.

Monday, October 23, 2006

Another rainy day

I seem to write a lot about weather. But the say a picture tells more than a thousand words and if I describe the weather you can see the scenery in your imagination where I am.

But anyway, it was last night shift so I slept away the morning and after I ran some errands in the city I left for Pörtom to visit my mom. It’s not that I do a lot of things there in this weather but I like to check up on here every now and then and she likes the company. Anyway I carried in some wood for the furnace so it wasn’t all chit chat over the coffee table. But now I’m back home.

Sunday, October 22, 2006

A rainy day

Well we got the winter tyres on and it has rained all day. The snow that fell earlier this weekend has all rained away. But winter tyres are good to have on. The mornings can be cold and the roads icy even when it’s warm and rainy daytime.

Saturday, October 21, 2006

Winter tyres

After spending Saturday shopping I came home and thought I would spend a few hours on the couch. I have the night shift so I like to get as much sleep as I can outside working hours without spending all day in bed. Well my dog didn’t think so.

Anyway tomorrow we are going to change to winter tyres. We can borrow a garage so we don’t have to do it outside in the cold.

More snow

The snow just keeps falling down. Fortunately it’s warm enough for the snow that falls on paved roads to melt. That means I don’t have to drive very slowly tomorrow morning when I drive home from work. I haven’t changed to winter tyres yet…

Friday, October 20, 2006

Look, it’s snowing

It’s the morning of the 20 October and it’s snowing =). I like the winter. I try to forget that it’s cold and windy. Picture an early winter morning with a clear sky and the sun has just risen over the horizon. Snow fell the night before and the landscape is draped in untouched white snow. That is a beautiful picture…

Thursday, October 19, 2006

4 night shifts

I’ve decided to add a picture of my dog Ella due to popular request ;-). Anyway it’s a mixed breed dog. Its exact components are unknown but I would say the main component is a breed called “finsk stövare”, I haven’t found a translation to English since it’s a Nordic/Finnish breed. Similar breeds in England are called Harriers. They are of the Hound class, which is mainly used for hunting. The second distinguishable component is likely black Labrador Retriever. Both Labrador and Harriers are both bigger and heavier built than Ella so there are other unknown components in Ella’s breeding tree.

Anyway I got 4 night shifts ahead. Since colder weather is expected these 4 night shifts might not be so calm as they have been during the summer…

Cap and gloves

While I walked my dog today I noticed it’s time to find a knitted cap and gloves. It was a cold wind outside today. The winter may be near…

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Updated

Since I wrote something about that I should update my English blog more often this is it. And hopefully I’ll get a few subscribers too =).

Well last time I wrote I had two morning shifts left. Well today is my day off after that. I got sort of tomorrow off too since my night shift starts at 22:00. I had planed to play some World of Warcraft today but since “my” server is down for maintenance until tomorrow 18:00 it has to be another day.

Other than that I visited my mom in the morning. Then back to the city and our usual Wednesday lunch. We were only four people this time but we didn’t go to a big restaurant either. After that it’s been a pretty slow day…

Sunday, October 15, 2006

Two morning shifts left

So now I got two mornings shift out of four left. It’s an early morning tomorrow morning since I got to be at work 7:00.

Come out and play

I don’t write my blog in English too often mainly because it’s not my mother tongue. English is a very expressful language but whenever I write something in English it’s usually not without a dictionary.

When I write something I try to convert my emotions and thoughts into writings and if you got your nose in a dictionary half the time that doesn’t work very well.

I’m also a perfectionist, I want to get things right. Maybe it would be easier to write if I didn’t look up every word I was unsure of…

How Evil are you?

You Are 46% Evil

You are evil, but you haven't yet mastered the dark side.
Fear not though - you are on your way to world domination.

The flu

I’ve got the flu. It feels like I’ve got a fever too but my body temperature is normal.

Tuesday, September 05, 2006

Three Blogs

Earlier I have had several blogs in different places; one in Swedish and a couple of others for the occasional copy & paste, another one in English and finally one where I tried to write in Finnish. The last one usually got a few posts in English and Swedish and well almost nothing in Finnish.

Now this is what I like about blogger. You can have several blogs attached to your account. So now I got three blogs here, one in each of the languages I know. And they are all on the same page. I love it.

Sunday, September 03, 2006

Under a waterfall

It didn’t rain between the midsts of July to the midst of August. As a result people haven’t had the need to mow their lawns and they are yellow. About 2 weeks ago the first rain in over a month came. It wasn’t much and either had the rain that has come since then been much. The lawns are still yellow.

Well going outside tonight is like walking in under a waterfall. It’s pouring down all the rain that didn’t show up earlier this summer.

Saturday, September 02, 2006

Another night shift

Well it’s now night shit two out of four. I spent the day putting together my girlfriend’s new computer desk. It had a lot of shelves so it looks very nice were it sits in the corner now; it’s a corner type computer desk.

We also had time to visit the local market. Well it was fun to look at and you can always grab something to eat…

This isn't working

My intention with this blog was to write it in Finnish in order to improve my knowledge in the Finnish language. As you can see I have written several blogs in Finnish. Unfortunately they are very short; one sentence blogs. I simply do not have sufficient knowledge in Finnish to write a blog in Finnish. Writing blogs should be fun, writing a blog with the help of a dictionary and a grammar book isn’t fun. I’ll continue improving my knowledge in Finnish on Suomi24.

I’m also seriously thinking about only allowing bloggers to read my blog. One of the reasons why I started writing blogs was self therapeutic. I wrote about things I normally couldn’t speak to my irl friends about, well at least not sober. Nowadays everyone is on the internet and I suspect I have many readers I know irl but I don’t know who. My usual blogs are watched.

So it would be nice to have a blog that is read by people I don’t know and who can give good advice about things. My place on the internet where I can be myself without worrying what my next door neighbour will think. For the record, I’m normal…

Dagens funderingar

Sunday, May 14, 2006
