Peanut butter

When we were last time shopping (I think it was Friday or Saturday) we bought something I have never tasted, peanut butter, Yes I’m 32 but peanut butter is something kids eat in American TV shows and about as common here as spit roasted Penguin in the Sahara desert.

Well, I think it’s an acquired taste and can be good on the bread at breakfast but I don’t think it’s going to be a can of it in the refrigerator all the time…

  1. Okay. So a country that has tubes of every other thing to spread on the rye bread DOESN'T have peanut butter?!?!? Interesting.
Does it actually come in a "can", or a plastic barrel/tub/container?
My advice on peanut butter: try it with honey on toast and ALWAYS have a glass of milk on hand! YUM! I eat it plain on the spoon.....maybe your kind didn't have sugar in it?!?! I'm intrigued!

  2. We have all kinds of butter, made from different kind of dairy products and plant oils, however peanut butter is unusual. It’s in a glass jar with a plastic lid. I actually found a web page with a picture of the jar and what’s in it at http://www.seege.fi/default.asp?t=6&f=2&p=4500&subp=&subp0=&did=192

For a short translation, the can is 350 g and 6.9 % (totally 11 % carbohydrates) of that stuff is sugar, 53 % fat/oils in different forms, 28 % proteins, 0.28% of salt and all of that comes from 90 % peanuts.

A bit of honey could definitely heighten the sugar content =)

  4. Do you have Nutella?! It's hazelnuts and cocoa, in a jar, sort of like peanut butter. I like it on graham crackers (sweet crackers). It's especially good if you roast a marshmallow on the fire, then put the gooey marshmallow between graham crackers with Nutella on them! We call them S'mores....because you will want Some More! A camping treat!

  6. I tried peanut butter with honey and it definitely was a sugar rush, I didn’t feel hungry gain that night =). Yes we also have Nutella, which I have tried before. I can’t remember when exactly but in Norway they put it on crepes and spread sugar on it still. There where other variations of sugar/fat rushes but I found it too sweet.

In the hypermarket where I found peanut butter, Nutella was next to it. To explain how uncommon this stuff is here; imagine a 15 000 square meter hypermarket, that should be about 150 000 square feet. The whole peanut butter/Nutella section is on the top shelf on and the shelves are about 60 cm/2 feet deep. The space the Nutella/peanut butter section occupies on that shelf is about 60 cm/2 feet wide. So we got 4 square feet /0.36 square meter of totally 15 000 m2 of this stuff.

Thank you for your comment Keri and welcome to my blog. *getting high on sugar*
